About us

This is not just a business, this is a passion project

Lumen Coffee was founded by Arthur Lumen and Shant Ghazar. It all started with a goal: to improve coffee culture in their hometown of Yerevan, Armenia. In 2020, despite various challenges, Artur and Shant successfully organized a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for Lumen Coffee’s first roaster—a Giesen W5A. As part of the campaign, they impressively pre-sold 33,000 espressos before even opening.

Following a rewarding first year at their Teryan 3A location, Lumen Coffee opened its second café in a stunning architectural space from 1936, located at 45 Mesrop Mashtots Avenue. The building had previously served as both a tobacco shop and a bookstore. Its original interior has been carefully preserved, offering an elegant, nostalgic atmosphere - especially meaningful to locals. All interior woodwork for the space was crafted by Hovhannes Naghashyan, adding a refined and thoughtful touch to the historic setting.

After a few years, in 2024, when Shant had already moved to Los Angeles, they decided to expand Lumen Coffee to LA. It began as a pop-up store in Highland Park, one of the city’s most coffee-obsessed neighborhoods. Today, 5025 N Figueroa Street is the permanent home of Lumen Coffee. This corner window shop features stunning tilework by the Haas Brothers, making it an inviting space for everyone.

Secondly, their roasting project was launched in Azusa, CA. Despite challenges related to weather, altitude, and terroir, Shant managed to develop roast profiles that match the taste of their coffee in Armenia. We are now proud to announce that our coffee bags are available throughout the U.S.
